What you need to use Forem Meet, supported devices, and the permissions the app asks for.

What is Forem Meet?

Forem Meet is a free, secure video meeting and calling app. Start or join group meetings, schedule them ahead of time, and call other Forem Meet users one-to-one over audio or video. Meetings are powered by LiveKit for reliable, low-latency media.

Supported Devices

  • Android: Download free from Google Play (Android 6.0 / SDK 23 or later)
  • iOS: Download free from the App Store (iOS 12 or later)
  • Web: A browser version is coming soon

What You Need

  • A stable internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data)
  • A working camera and microphone for video calls
  • A Forem Meet account — sign in with Google or Apple

Permissions the App Requests

  • Camera & Microphone: required to share your video and audio
  • Notifications: for incoming calls, meeting reminders, and missed-call alerts
  • Bluetooth: so audio can route to connected headphones
Tip: Allow camera, microphone, and notification permissions when prompted so calls and reminders work reliably.

  2. Tap Sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple, or sign in with your email and password

  4. You're taken to the home screen, ready to create or join a meeting

  • Sync your meeting history so you can rejoin past meetings
  • Keep your upcoming and shared meetings in one place

Start or Create a Meeting

Create a new meeting from the Create tab and share the code, link, or QR with others.

Start an Instant Meeting

  1. On the home screen, open the Create tab
  2. Enter a room name (or use the suggested one)
  3. Tap Create to open the prejoin lobby, then join

Whoever creates the meeting becomes the host and gets a 🛡️ host badge that everyone can see.

Invite People

  • Share the code: give others the meeting code to type in
  • Share a link: send the invite link from the in-call share button — opening it joins the same room
  • Show a QR code: let nearby people scan to join in seconds
Tip: To test a call yourself, open Forem Meet on two devices, enter the same room name with different display names, and join.

Join a Meeting (Code, Link, or QR)

Three quick ways to join a Forem Meet meeting from your phone.

Join with a Code

  1. Open the Join tab on the home screen
  2. Enter your display name and the meeting code
  3. Tap Join to open the prejoin lobby

Join from a Link

Tap a meeting link someone shared with you. Forem Meet opens straight into the prejoin lobby for that room.

Join by Scanning a QR Code

  1. Tap Scan QR on the Join screen
  2. Point your camera at the host's QR code
  3. You're taken into the meeting's lobby automatically
Tip: Your recent meetings are saved in your history, so you can rejoin a previous meeting with a single tap.

The Prejoin Lobby (Green Room)

Preview your camera and check your mic before you join the call.

Before You Join

After creating or joining a meeting, Forem Meet shows a prejoin lobby — a "green room" where you can get set before entering the call.

  • See a live preview of your camera
  • Toggle your camera on or off
  • Toggle your microphone on or off
  • Confirm your display name

Joining the Call

When you're happy with your preview, tap Join to enter the meeting room. You can change your camera and mic at any time during the call too.

Tip: Join muted in larger meetings and unmute only when it's your turn to speak — it keeps background noise down for everyone.

Schedule a Meeting for Later

Plan ahead and get a reminder 20 minutes before your meeting starts.

Schedule a Meeting

  1. On the Create tab, tap Schedule for later
  2. Pick a title, date, and time
  3. Save it — the meeting appears in your Upcoming list

Reminders

Forem Meet sends you a reminder 20 minutes before a scheduled meeting starts, so you have time to get ready. Meetings starting within 20 minutes are marked “Starting soon”.

See Your Upcoming Meetings

Your upcoming and shared meetings appear right on the home screen, so you always know what's next and can jump in when it's time. Pull down to refresh the list, and watch for a badge that flags new meeting invites at a glance.

Tip: Make sure notifications are enabled for Forem Meet so reminders reach you on time.

Share Meetings & Add to Calendar

Share a meeting in-app so it shows in everyone's list, and add it to Google or Apple Calendar.

Share a Meeting In-App

Open a meeting from your scheduled list and share it with other Forem Meet users by email. It appears in their Upcoming list automatically — showing who shared it — and they're notified. Their list updates the moment you invite them, so there's no need to copy links around manually.

Add to Your Calendar

  1. Open the meeting from your upcoming list
  2. Tap Add to Calendar
  3. Choose Google Calendar or Apple Calendar
  4. The event is added with the meeting details
Tip: Adding a meeting to your calendar gives you a second reminder alongside the in-app 20-minute alert.

Call Someone 1:1 (Audio or Video)

Call any Forem Meet user directly over audio or video, with a real ringing incoming-call screen.

Make a 1:1 Call

  1. Open Calls from the home screen and start a new call
  2. Enter the person's email (or pick a saved contact or recent call)
  3. Choose an audio or video call

The person you're calling needs to be signed in to Forem Meet with that email and have the app open to be rung.

Receiving a Call

When someone calls you, Forem Meet shows a ringing incoming-call screen with the caller's photo and a live ringing animation. Answer to join, or decline to send it to your missed calls. Tapping the incoming-call notification opens straight into the call.

During the Call

A 1:1 call has the same controls as a meeting — mute, camera toggle, flip camera, switch audio output, and leave.

Tip: Keep notifications on and the app installed and signed in so incoming calls reach you reliably.

Contacts, Recent & Missed Calls

Save contacts and review your recent and missed calls to call back in a single tap.

Saved Contacts

Save the people you call often as contacts so they're always one tap away.

Recent Calls

Your recent calls list keeps a history of who you've called and who's called you. Tap any entry to call back.

Missed-Call Alerts

If you miss a call, Forem Meet shows a missed-call alert so you can follow up and call the person back with a single tap.

Tip: Calling back from recent or missed calls is the fastest way to reconnect — no need to search for the contact again.

Participant Views & Layouts

Switch between Auto, Grid, and Speaker layouts and see who's talking at a glance.

Available Layouts

  • Auto: Forem Meet picks the best layout for the moment
  • Grid: everyone in equally-sized tiles — great for group discussions
  • Speaker: the active speaker takes the main view with others in a filmstrip

Helpful Indicators

  • Active-speaker highlight: the current speaker's tile is highlighted
  • Mute indicators: see who's muted at a glance
  • Profile photos: shown on tiles when the camera is off
  • Network quality: a per-tile indicator shows each person's connection
  • Participant count: a live count of who's in the call
Tip: In large meetings, swipe through the grid to see more participants, then switch to Speaker view to focus on whoever's talking.

Pin or Spotlight a Participant

Keep one person front and center regardless of who's speaking.

Pin a Participant

  1. Tap the participant's video tile
  2. Choose Pin (or Spotlight)
  3. Their video stays in your main view even when others speak
  4. Tap again to unpin and return to your chosen layout
Tip: Pinning is great for presentations or interviews where you want to keep your eyes on one person.

Screen Sharing

Present your screen so it takes the stage, with everyone else in a filmstrip.

How Screen Sharing Works

When someone shares their screen, the shared content takes a large "stage" and the other participants move to a filmstrip alongside it, so everyone stays in view.

Start & Stop Sharing

  1. Tap the screen-share control in the call
  2. Confirm the system prompt to begin sharing your screen
  3. Tap the control again to stop sharing
Note: Screen sharing is being rolled out across platforms. If you don't see the option yet on your device, it's coming in an upcoming update.

In-Meeting Chat

Send messages to everyone during a call, with an unread badge so you never miss a message.

Using Chat

  1. Tap the chat icon in the call controls
  2. Type your message and send
  3. Everyone in the meeting sees it

Unread Badge

When new messages arrive while the chat is closed, an unread badge appears on the chat icon so you know to check it.

Tip: Chat is perfect for sharing a link or asking a quick question without interrupting whoever is speaking.

Reactions & Raise Hand

Send floating emoji reactions and raise your hand to participate without interrupting.

Send a Reaction

  1. Tap the reactions icon in the call
  2. Pick an emoji
  3. It floats up on screen for everyone to see

Raise Your Hand

Tap Raise hand to signal you want to speak. A badge appears on your tile and in the participants list, and the people button shows a count of raised hands. Tap again to lower it.

Etiquette: In larger meetings, raise your hand instead of interrupting — the host can see everyone who's waiting to speak.

Host Controls & Moderation

As the meeting creator you can mute a participant, mute everyone, or remove someone.

Who is the Host?

The person who creates the meeting becomes the host and shows a 🛡️ host badge so everyone knows who's in charge.

What a Host Can Do

  • Mute a participant: quiet a single noisy line
  • Mute everyone: silence all participants at once
  • Remove a participant: take someone out of the call

These controls are available from the participants list during the meeting.

Tip: "Mute everyone" is handy at the start of a large meeting — ask people to unmute only when they want to speak.

Audio Output & Bluetooth

Switch between speaker and earpiece, and let audio follow your Bluetooth headphones.

Bluetooth Headphones

When Bluetooth headphones are connected, Forem Meet automatically routes call audio to them — no extra setup needed.

Speaker or Earpiece

During a call you can switch between the loudspeaker and the earpiece at any time to suit where you are.

Clear Audio & Video

Calls use HD video and noise-reduced audio for clear conversations, even on the move.

Tip: Connect your Bluetooth headset before joining so audio is already routed when the call starts.

In-Call Controls & Experience

Mute, camera, flip camera, meeting timer, reconnecting banner, and leaving a call.

Call Controls

  • Mic: mute and unmute your microphone
  • Camera: turn your video on or off
  • Flip camera: switch between front and rear cameras (mobile)
  • People: open the participants list
  • Leave: exit the call (with a confirmation so you don't leave by accident)

Staying Informed

  • Meeting timer: see how long the call has been running
  • Live participant count: know how many people are in the room
  • "Reconnecting…" banner: if your connection drops, Forem Meet shows a banner and reconnects automatically
  • One-tap invite sharing: bring more people in mid-call
Tip: If video stutters, turn your camera off for a moment — audio usually stays clear on weaker connections.

Audio & Video Troubleshooting

Fixes for common camera, microphone, and connection problems on Forem Meet.

Others Can't Hear Me

  • Check you're not muted — the mic icon should be on
  • Confirm Forem Meet has microphone permission in your device settings
  • If using a headset, reconnect it and try again

I Can't Hear Others

  • Turn up your device volume
  • Switch between speaker and earpiece, or reconnect your Bluetooth headphones
  • Leave and rejoin the call to reset audio routing

Camera Not Working

  • Confirm Forem Meet has camera permission in device settings
  • Close other apps that may be using the camera
  • Toggle your camera off and on, or try flipping the camera

Connection Problems

  • Check the per-tile network indicator to see whose connection is weak
  • Move closer to your Wi-Fi router or switch to a stronger network
  • If you see "Reconnecting…", wait a moment — the app reconnects automatically
Quick fix: Leaving and rejoining the meeting clears most temporary audio, video, and connection issues. Still stuck? Contact our support team.
