Why Location Services Are Important

Location services allow Forem Weather to automatically detect your current location and provide accurate weather data for where you are right now.

Enable on Android

1. Open your device Settings
2. Tap Location or Privacy > Location
3. Make sure Location is turned ON
4. Find Forem Weather in the app list
5. Select "Allow all the time" or "Allow only while using the app"

Enable on iOS

1. Open Settings
2. Scroll down and tap Forem Weather
3. Tap Location
4. Select "While Using the App" or "Always"
5. Toggle on "Precise Location" for best accuracy

Changing Temperature Units

1. Open Forem Weather app
2. Tap the Settings icon (gear) in the top right
3. Find "Temperature Unit" option
4. Choose between:
   • Celsius (°C) - Used in most countries
   • Fahrenheit (°F) - Used in USA
5. Your selection is saved automatically

Quick Reference

• 0°C = 32°F (Freezing point of water)
• 20°C = 68°F (Room temperature)
• 37°C = 98.6°F (Body temperature)
• 100°C = 212°F (Boiling point of water)

Viewing Hourly Forecast

1. Open Forem Weather app
2. On the main screen, scroll horizontally through the hourly cards below the current temperature
3. Each card shows: time, temperature, weather icon, and precipitation chance
4. Tap any hour to see more details

Hourly Details Include

• Temperature (feels like)
• Precipitation probability
• Wind speed and direction
• Humidity percentage
• UV index

Viewing the 7-Day Forecast

1. Open Forem Weather app
2. Scroll down on the main screen to find the "7-Day Forecast" section
3. Each day shows: date, weather icon, high/low temperatures
4. Tap any day to expand and see detailed information

Daily Details Include

• High and low temperatures
• Weather conditions description
• Precipitation chance
• Sunrise and sunset times
• Wind conditions

Types of Weather Alerts

• Severe Weather Warnings: Thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes
• Temperature Alerts: Extreme heat or cold warnings
• Precipitation Alerts: Heavy rain, snow, or flooding
• Air Quality Alerts: Poor air quality notifications

Enable Weather Alerts

1. Go to Settings > Notifications
2. Toggle on "Severe Weather Alerts"
3. Choose alert types you want to receive
4. Ensure device notifications are enabled for Forem Weather

Accessing the Radar Map

1. Open Forem Weather app
2. Tap the "Radar" tab at the bottom of the screen
3. The map will load centered on your current location

Radar Features

• Precipitation Layer: Shows rain, snow, and mixed precipitation
• Animation: Play/pause to see precipitation movement
• Zoom: Pinch to zoom in/out on the map
• Pan: Drag to move around the map
• Time Slider: View past radar or future predictions

Understanding Radar Colors

• Green: Light precipitation
• Yellow: Moderate precipitation
• Red: Heavy precipitation
• Purple: Extreme precipitation/hail

Changing Wind Speed Units

1. Open Forem Weather app
2. Tap Settings (gear icon)
3. Find "Wind Speed Unit"
4. Choose from:
   • km/h - Kilometers per hour
   • mph - Miles per hour
   • m/s - Meters per second
   • knots - Nautical miles per hour

Conversion Reference

1 m/s = 3.6 km/h = 2.24 mph = 1.94 knots

UV Index Scale

• 0-2 (Low): Safe for most people. No protection needed.
• 3-5 (Moderate): Wear sunglasses. Use SPF 30+ sunscreen if outside for 30+ minutes.
• 6-7 (High): Seek shade during midday. Wear protective clothing and sunscreen.
• 8-10 (Very High): Avoid sun exposure 10am-4pm. Wear sun-protective clothing.
• 11+ (Extreme): Take all precautions. Unprotected skin can burn in minutes.

Viewing UV Index

The UV Index is displayed on the main weather screen under "Sun & UV" or in the detailed daily forecast.

AQI Levels Explained

• 0-50 (Good): Air quality is satisfactory. Little or no risk.
• 51-100 (Moderate): Acceptable. Some pollutants may affect very sensitive individuals.
• 101-150 (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups): Sensitive groups may experience health effects.
• 151-200 (Unhealthy): Everyone may begin to experience health effects.
• 201-300 (Very Unhealthy): Health alert: everyone may experience serious effects.
• 301+ (Hazardous): Health emergency. Everyone is affected.

Viewing AQI

Find AQI information in the "Air Quality" section on the main screen or tap to see detailed pollutant breakdown.

Changing Theme

1. Open Settings in Forem Weather
2. Find "Theme" or "Appearance"
3. Choose from:
   • Light: Bright background, dark text
   • Dark: Dark background, light text
   • System: Follows your device's theme setting

Adding Widget on Android

1. Long-press on an empty area of your home screen
2. Tap "Widgets"
3. Find "Forem Weather" in the widget list
4. Choose your preferred widget size
5. Drag it to your home screen
6. Configure location if prompted

Adding Widget on iOS

1. Long-press on your home screen until icons wiggle
2. Tap the + button in the top corner
3. Search for "Forem Weather"
4. Choose widget size (Small, Medium, or Large)
5. Tap "Add Widget"
6. Position it where you want

Widget Sizes

• Small: Current temperature and condition
• Medium: Adds hourly forecast
• Large: Full daily forecast included

Quick Fixes

1. Check Internet Connection: Ensure WiFi or mobile data is enabled
2. Pull to Refresh: Swipe down on the main screen to refresh data
3. Restart the App: Close and reopen Forem Weather
4. Check Location: Ensure location services are enabled

Advanced Troubleshooting

• Clear Cache: Settings > Apps > Forem Weather > Clear Cache
• Update App: Check for app updates in your app store
• Reinstall: Uninstall and reinstall the app as a last resort

Offline Functionality

Forem Weather caches your last viewed weather data, allowing you to see it even without an internet connection.

What's Available Offline

• Last fetched current conditions
• Cached hourly and daily forecasts
• Previously loaded radar images

Limitations

• Data may be outdated (check "Last Updated" timestamp)
• New locations cannot be added offline
• Live radar animations require internet

Notification Options

1. Open Settings in Forem Weather
2. Tap "Notifications"
3. Enable the notifications you want:
   • Daily Forecast: Morning weather summary
   • Severe Alerts: Dangerous weather warnings
   • Rain Alerts: Precipitation approaching
   • Air Quality: Poor AQI notifications

Device Settings

Make sure notifications are also enabled in your device settings for Forem Weather.

Common Causes

• GPS not enabled or has weak signal
• Location permissions set to "Approximate" instead of "Precise"
• Using WiFi-only location (less accurate)
• Indoor location with poor GPS reception

How to Improve Accuracy

1. Enable "Precise Location" in app permissions
2. Go outdoors for better GPS signal
3. Enable both WiFi and GPS for better triangulation
4. Restart location services on your device

Weather Icons Guide

• Sun: Clear skies, sunny conditions
• Sun with Cloud: Partly cloudy
• Cloud: Overcast/cloudy
• Cloud with Rain: Rain expected
• Cloud with Lightning: Thunderstorm
• Snowflake: Snow conditions
• Fog/Mist: Low visibility conditions

The animated icons show real-time conditions with movement to represent rain, snow, or wind intensity.

Wind Direction Basics

Wind direction indicates where the wind is coming FROM, not where it's going.

• N: Wind from the North
• NE: Wind from the Northeast
• E: Wind from the East
• SE: Wind from the Southeast
• S: Wind from the South
• SW: Wind from the Southwest
• W: Wind from the West
• NW: Wind from the Northwest

The arrow/compass in the app points in the direction the wind is blowing TO.

Changing Pressure Units

1. Go to Settings
2. Find "Pressure Unit"
3. Choose from: hPa, mbar, inHg, or mmHg

Standard sea level pressure is approximately 1013 hPa / 29.92 inHg.

Clear App Data

1. Go to device Settings > Apps
2. Find and tap Forem Weather
3. Tap "Storage"
4. Tap "Clear Cache" to remove temporary files
5. Tap "Clear Data" to remove all settings (resets the app)

Common Issues & Solutions

• App Crashes: Update to the latest version, clear cache, or reinstall
• Slow Performance: Close other apps, clear cache, ensure enough storage
• Battery Drain: Reduce location refresh frequency in settings
• Widget Not Updating: Check battery optimization settings, ensure background refresh is enabled
